Kirsti: The clock strikes 12.20pm (really?? It STRIKES at 12.20??). A guy answers his phone. We see hazy flashes of him picking up a shotgun and killing people, then back in reality, he says “Alright,” and hangs up the phone as a bus drives past. He heads into a store and asks to look at a gun. The shopkeeper is startled because Doc’s not the gun-toting type, but shows him a shotgun. Doc asks what kind of shells it uses, and the shopkeeper pulls out a box to show him. Doc loads the shotgun he’s holding. The shopkeeper gets shouty. “It’s all going to be okay…” Doc says before shooting the shopkeeper. Customers scream, but Doc repeats his previous statement before shooting himself.

Cut to Sam, having a seizure vision of everything above. Dean bursts in asking if they can leave yet, then looks worried at Sam’s appearance.

FLAME ON!

After the Not Credits, the Bromobile speeds through the night. Sam insists  they go to Ellen’s because seizure vision = demon = Ash can tell them where shit’s going down. At Harvelle’s, the boys head to Ash’s room in the back. He answers the door naked, and the boys look grossed out. Sam says they need his help.

Out in the bar, Ash searches for the bus logo Sam’s doodled. It’s from Guthrie, Oklahoma. Also, there are no demonic signs in the area. Sam tells him to search for a house fire in Guthrie in 1983 that started in a nursery on the kid’s six month birthday. Ash is like “Dude, WTF” because that’s hella specific. Sam bribes him with beer.

Later that night, Jo puts REO Speedwagon’s Can’t Fight This Feeling on as she cleans up. Dean looks pained. Jo defends her choice, saying “Kevin Cronin sings it from the heart.” “He sings it from the HAIR. There’s a difference…” Dean replies. Sam rushes up and says they’ve got a match, and the boys head out. In the car, Dean pitchily sings Can’t Fight This Feeling, and Sam looks pained. It’s all totally irrelevant to the plot, but this whole thing just makes me laugh so much.

Anyway, Dean asks what Sam’s got. INFODUMP TIME!! Andrew Gallagher is a couple of months younger than Sam, and his mother died in a nursery fire on his six month birthday. He has no job, no current address, and a ton of unpaid bills but no flags from collection agencies. Sam suggests they start at his last known job.

Cut to a waitress pouring coffee for the boys. Dean says they’re lawyers, and that Andy’s great aunt has left him an inheritance. Sam asks if they’re friends, and the waitress says that they used to be. A busboy, who looks like he should be one of Logan’s Brogans, rushes up and starts talking about how awesome Andy is. Tracy, the waitress, tells him to get back to work, and says Andy might be on Orchard Street. All the boys need to do is look out for his van, featuring a barbarian queen riding a polar bear.

Spinal Tap’s Stonehenge starts up as we pan over the van. It’s basically the Trio’s van from Buffy, but with a barbarian queen instead of a Death Star.

AMAZING.

AMAZING.

Dean thinks it’s awesome. Sam, meanwhile, is worried that he’ll start killing people like the other kids. Dean says he’s not a killer, and Sam’s all “Um. Have you missed the part where I kill things professionally?”

Anyway, Andy walks out of a building in a dressing gown and waves at a hot blonde upstairs. Further along the street, he greets Doc. Sam IDs Doc as the shooter and sets off to tail him while Dean follows Andy. Down the street, Andy stops and jumps out of his van. He walks over to the Bromobile and is all “OH MY GOD, YOUR CAR IS AWESOME!!” They chat about the car for a minute, and then Andy says “Can I have it?” There’s a Parseltongue-y echo as he talks. Dean replies “Sure, man!” He jumps out, helps Andy into the driver’s seat and grins as Andy drives away, then looks hella confused.

Downtown, Sam watches Doc get a phone call and sees the bus approaching. He realises what’s about to happen, and rushes into the gun store. He pulls the alarm. As customers evacuate, he sees Doc look confused and walk away. Then he stares in confusion as he sees Andy drive past in the Bromobile, talking on the phone. Doc gets another phone call. Sam calls Dean, which leads to Dean saying “He full-on Obi-Wanned me. It’s mind control, man!” Sam turns in time to see Doc get hit by a bus. Fade to black.

After the Not Commercial Break, Sam tearfully tells Dean that he thought keeping Doc out of the gun store would be enough. Meanwhile, Andy walks into the diner, upset. Brogan tries to high five him, but Andy heads straight to Tracy. He tells her Doc’s dead and he’s upset and wanted to see her. She says he’s sweet and she missed him and that some guys were looking for him earlier.

Across town, the Winchesters find the Bromobile parked on the side of the road. Dean’s relieved. They discuss the fact that Andy needs to make his mind control commands verbally, and Sam says Doc got a phone call just before he died. Dean doesn’t think that Andy’s guilty though. Sam wants to know how they’ll track Andy down, but Dean says it’s easy.

They break into Andy’s van. Bow-chicka-wow-wow music starts up as we pan around the interior, which features thick rugs, a disco ball and a painting of a tiger. Dean says it’s magnificent. Sam .judgey stares, then examines some philosophy books. Dean, meanwhile, studies what he refers to as “Moby Dick’s bong.

Back at the Bromobile, Sam wonders what the motive is. They argue some more about whether or not Andy’s their guy. Obviously, Andy appears at Sam’s window and Parseltongues (it’s a thing, go with it) “Why are you following me?” Sam says they’re lawyers, but Andy’s not buying it. He orders them to tell the truth. Dean word vomits about them being demon hunters and Sam’s psychic powers and ohgodmakethetalkingstop. Andy orders them to leave him alone and walks away.

Sam follows him, gesturing at Dean to stay by the car. Andy Parseltongues some more, but it doesn’t work on Sam. Sam says he knows all about the mind control thing, and starts talking about his dead mother and powers. Andy wants nothing to do with it. Sam asks why he killed Doc, and Andy’s all “The fuck??” Just then, Sam has a seizure vision, seeing a woman getting a phone call, then dousing herself in petrol and saying “It’s gonna be okay,” before setting herself on fire. Fade to black.

After the Not Commercial Break, Dean catches Sam as he staggers, and lowers him to the ground. Sam tells Dean what he saw as Andy insists he had nothing to do with it. Sam says they need to make sure Andy doesn’t make any phone calls and the woman will be saved. Just then, a fire truck screams past. Dean rushes off while Sam guards Andy. At the petrol station, Dean calls Sam to tell him the woman’s dead and that it only happened minutes ago. They realise Andy can’t have done it.

Sam and Andy discuss their powers. Andy reckons Sam got the shitty end of the stick, getting visions of people dying, which YUP. He says his gift was like winning the lottery. Dean pulls up with a bombshell – the latest victim had a kid in 1983 and gave it up for adoption. Andy’s all “Weird, I’m adopted.” The dates match, but Dean wants to check birth certificates to confirm. Unfortunately, the records are at the county office.

Over there, Andy uses his powers on a security guard as the Winchesters search through records. As the security guard leaves, Andy murmurs “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for“, and Dean chuckles.

Sam finds the relevant birth certificate, and informs Andy that the latest victim was his birth mother. Doc delivered him and oversaw the adoption. Also? He has a twin brother.

Sometime later, Andy’s in shock: “I have an evil twin?!?!?!” Sam says his twin brother was adopted to a family upstate, his name is Ansen Weems (SERIOUSLY, SCRIPTWRITERS??), and he has a local address. Dean gets a copy of his licence from the DMV and stares in shock before showing it to Andy. His evil twin is Brogan.

Diner. Brogan and Tracy close up. He asks about her relationship with Andy, and if it was serious. She says that it wasn’t and he Parseltongues “Tell the truth.” Meanwhile, the Bromobile speeds through the night. Sam asks what Brogan’s story is, and Andy says he just turned up in town eight months ago, acting like they were best friends and it was hella weird. Sam doubles up in pain as he has another seizure vision. It’s of Tracy. She climbs the side of a dam and tearfully jumps. Dean pulls over and rushes to Sam. Fade to black.

After the Not Commercial Break, a shitty car pulls up at the dam. Tracy cries as Brogan tells her this is where he brings his ladies. Excuse me while I vomit and break out our THAT’S RAPE ASSHOLE tag. He tells her that Andy’s his family, and she can’t have him. Nearby, the Bromobile pulls off the road. Sam grabs a gun and tells Dean to stay back. Dean quickly agrees. Andy says if Tracy’s in danger, he’s going with Sam.

Back in Brogan’s car, he orders Tracey to undress. She cries as she does so. He tells her in Parseltongue to go over to the dam wall because she thinks she can fly. If she gets scared, she should just tell herself everything will be okay. The side window shatters. Sam points his gun at Brogan and yells at him to get out of the car. Brogan uses Parseltongue, but it doesn’t work. Sam punches him IN THE FACE. Andy helps Tracy out of the car as Sam pins Brogan on the road. Andy runs over and slaps a piece of duct tape over Brogan’s mouth. Then he kicks his evil twin.

Sam tells him to stop, and Brogan takes advantage of the distraction to stare at Tracy. She picks up a branch and hits Sam.

IN THE FACE.

IN THE FACE.

He collapses and Andy orders Tracy to stop. She backs away, terrified. Brogan pulls the duct tape off his mouth, and tells Andy that they can do non-verbal spells with practice. So…levicorpus, yeah? Andy tells Brogan he’s a monster. Brogan tells him to STFU or Tracy will die. Andy turns around to see Tracy sobbing on top of the dam.

Brogan says he’s stronger than Andy, and Andy backs off, begging Brogan not to hurt Tracy. Brogan says they’re better than everyone because they can push people around. Andy’s all “WTF is wrong with you”, and Brogan’s confused. Andy yells “I mean, you, you learn you’ve got a twin…you call him up, you go out for a drink, you don’t start killing people!” Brogan says “the man with the yellow eyes” made him promise not to say anything about them being twins. Sam comes to in time to hear this, and is all “OH SHIT.”

Meanwhile, Dean stalks through the forest, a sniper rifle in his hands. Andy demands to know why Brogan killed Doc and their birth mother. Brogan shouts that they split them up, stopped them from growing up together. He couldn’t let them get away with it. Dean cocks his rifle. Brogan hears it and stares up at Dean’s hiding spot. “I see you. Bye-bye,” he Parseltongues. Dean tucks the rifle barrel under his chin. There’s a gunshot, and after a second, Brogan falls to the ground. Tracy starts to cry as she sees Andy holding Sam’s gun. He’s clearly shocked at what he’s just done. Fade to black.

The next morning, the authorities clean up. Andy convinces the cops that they saw Brogan kill himself. He walks past Tracy, who won’t even look at him. Andy says she’s scared of him – he’d never used his mind control on her before. Sam hands Andy his phone number, telling him to call if anything comes up.

As they walk away, Sam says he was right about Andy being a killer. Dean disagrees – Andy’s a hero for saving him and Tracy. He didn’t want to kill, he was pushed into it. “Right circumstances, everyone’s capable of murder. Everyone. You know, maybe that’s what the demon’s doing. Pushing us. Finding ways to break us…” Sam says. Dean tells him to stop worrying about the demon because they’re going to find it and kill it. Sam’s doubtful, but their conversation’s interrupted by a call from Ellen.

Cut to the Roadhouse. Ellen sends Jo out of the room, then demands to know the details of their hunt. Dean says it’s family stuff, but she’s worked out that they’re after the demon. She’s on their side, and they need to be honest with her. Sam tells her about his powers, and Dean headdesks. Ellen asks if the psychic kids are dangerous, and the answer is no but yes. Which isn’t very helpful.

She asks how many kids are involved, and Dean says all they have to go on is the house fire on the kid’s six month birthday thing, but that it applies in every case. Sam says he’s wrong – nothing happened to Brogan’s adoptive mother. They have no way of tracking how many kids there might be. Fade to black.

I don’t know how to feel about this episode. Despite the utter creepiness of Andy’s ability, I have a weird soft spot for him. But the evil twin thing is dumb. As were his reasons for killing people. So…yeah.

Next time on Supernatural: The boys team up with Jo to take on a beastie that’s taking pretty young blondes from their apartments in S02 E06 – No Exit.
