Charmed S01 E21 – Deep love places

Previously: Prue kind of died to vanquish a demon.

Love Hurts

Marines: Are we done with season 1 yet? Almost? Cool.

Somewhere in San Fran, a woman is clutching a paper bag and walking nervously to her car. Once she gets there, she drops the bag and cuts her hand on a broken bottle. A hand on her shoulder makes her jump, but she’s relieved when she sees that it’s Leo. I guess she didn’t first hear his TINKLE TINKLE TINKLE Whitelighter sound effects. Leo tells Daisy to stay strong for a little longer, until she’s safe. Daisy is worried about a certain “he” with lots of scary powers. Leo heals her hand and she’s shocked by it. He tells her she’s got a special future and he brought her to San Francisco because he’s got powerful friends who can help her. Also, the Charmed Ones are here. (He probably meant them, but whatevs.)

Daisy worries about Alec finding him, but it’s cool because Leo made her invisible. Alec shows up just then and Leo tells Daisy to run away. Alec says he loves Daisy like Leo loves his witch Piper. Leo says Darklighters (HA. HA HA HA HA) aren’t capable of love, but Alec swears he is. He even had some sort of Supernatural Stalker Powers that allowed him to just think about Daisy and suddenly be near her. All this until Leo cloaked her with his TINKLE TINKLE TINKLE powers. Leo, like an idiot, says that if Alec knows that, he must know that the TINKLE power will keep her hidden as long as he’s alive. Alec dramatically says he’s got an answer to that and Leo is an idiot who just waits there all, “oh yes? Tell me more about your solution to the problem of me being alive.”

Alec fires an arrow from a crossbow and it pierces Leo’s shoulder and THAT’S WHAT HAPPENS. Leo TINKLES out.

Halliwell Manor. The girls are off to Cabo for 48 hours and Prue is wearing her bikini on the plane to maximize vacation time. Phoebe and Prue are super happy about hooking up while on vacation.

Prue thinks that Piper won’t be in on the action because she’s “taking a vacation from men.” AGAIN. HOW MANY TIMES THIS PLOT POINT? PIPER SHOULD TAKE A VACATION FROM TAKING A VACATION FROM MEN. Prue suspects that Piper might be reading on a beach all vacation and Phoebe is all, “NO,” even though it sounds like the best thing ever. Prue suggests leaving their sister alone, and Phoebe suggests that she knows what’s best for Piper’s sex life.

The girls hear a crash from the attic and Piper calls down to them for help. When they get up there, they see Leo is on the floor with that arrow still in his shoulder. He’s clearly in pain, but the girls just stare at him. Leo is squirming around all, “OW. ARROW. DAMN IT, GUYS, ARROW. PAIN.”

They gawk us into I AM THE SAHN.

Oddly upbeat music takes us from the establishing shots back to the Manor where Prue is gathering every bit of first aid stuff she finds around the house. In the attic, Piper is pissed Phoebe didn’t tell her that Leo was a Whitelighter. Phoebe reminds her that she did, but Piper was all, “ha ha ha! That’s totally impossible!”

They need to remove the arrow from Leo’s shoulder, but he warns them not to touch it because it’s tipped with poison. Thankfully, telekinesis, and Prue gets it out with a swipe of her hand. Aren’t you supposed to break off the fat end or something? Couldn’t they have helped a brother out and frozen time? Yeesh.

Piper’s pissed Leo didn’t tell her about his Whitelighter-ness and meanwhile he tries to explain about how they have to protect Daisy. Darklighters seduce innocent women to create evil through procreation. (Wouldn’t you get even eviler spawn if you procreated with guilty women?) Alec broke the rules, though, and fell in love with Daisy. She loved him back until she found out what he was. Piper gives a, “MMHMM” and leaves. If they don’t find Daisy, she won’t ever become a Whitelighter, or something. Leo warns them to stay away from Alec’s hands and off Prue and Phoebe go.

LOLPD. Andy still hasn’t told Morris why Internal Affairs is investigating him. Andy gets a call from Prue and pretends it’s from someone in forensics. Unfortunately for Andy, he picked a dude who just went out on paternity leave. Morris is onto him., but he just leaves silently to meet Prue.

Qua     ke. Andy tells Prue about the Internal Affairs investigation as he looks shiftily around. He promises not to tell her secret and they smile at each other about how they’ll always be friends. Then Prue asks him to help them find Daisy. Friendship is always saying yes to secret investigations <3.

Attic. Phoebe brings Leo some food and the very good point that Piper was also hiding the fact that she was a witch from him, so probably she knows all about keeping secrets. Leo’s wound is looking real mediocre prostheticy and Phoebe is worried. Leo can’t use his healing powers on himself and the Darklighter poison is going to kill him. Plus, Alec is going to find Daisy.

Downstairs, Piper is flipping through the Book of Shadows, but -SHOCK- can’t find anything useful. Phoebe joins her and breaks the news that Leo is dying. Piper says they have to save him.

Daisy gets back to her room and Alec is waiting for her. He says lots of creepy things about their forever love and how he’s never going to go away, especially now that Leo is out of the way. Daisy sobs a fair bit and says things like, “no!” and “I’ll never go willingly!” The motel manager knocks on the door and says he’s checking in. He lets himself into the room and Alec kills him with his death-hand (or whatever) and Daisy escapes through the window.

Prue and Andy arrive and she telekinesises Alec across the room. After the initial shock, Alec DARK TINKLES away.

Attic. Phoebe and Prue walk in on Piper saying some spell. Piper explains that she’s switching powers with Leo so that she can heal him. Prue supports her and she gets to casting the UNSPECIFIED POWERS SWITCHING SPELL. No one should be surprised when one second later, all of their powers have switched. Prue has the useless power, Phoebe has telekinesis and Piper presumably has Whitelighter powers.

Andy calls with news that Daisy bought a bus ticket on her credit card. Phoebe says they have to switch powers back, but Piper won’t do it until she heals Leo. Prue and Phoebe go after Daisy with their flip-flopped powers. No word on why they couldn’t just leave the house and switch powers outside, or something.

LOLPD. Internal Affairs pulls Andy in because he showed up at the Motel Murder before it was called in, plus they know he was with a hot brunette at the time. TOTALLY BUSTED. Andy turns in his gun and badge rather than answer IA’s questions.

Alec finds Daisy at the bus depot. Prue and Phoebe arrive. Prue is trying to rile Phoebe up so she can tap into the telekinesis. Meanwhile, Phoebe is trying to convince us her power is actually cool and “hard work.” Except Prue just has to touch a counter and she gets a premonition of Daisy hiding in the bathroom.

We cut there. Alec is threatening Daisy with a relationship again and she knees him in his junk. Prue and Phoebe walk in, and to get her angry enough to telekinesis, Prue confesses to damaging Grams’s car and blaming Phoebe for it, years ago. Does this mean that Prue is always angry? I WAS RIGHT ABOUT HER ALWAYS LOOKING LIKE SHE’S GOING TO PUNCH SOMEONE?

Phoebe manages to toss Alec aside and he DARK TINKLES out. The girls grab Daisy and go.

Back at the manor, Piper is still trying heal Leo but can’t. Leo says he’s real happy to die in Piper’s attic and that he loves her.

When Prue, Phoebe and Daisy arrive, they see some flowers downstairs. Daisy thinks Alec sent them, but they are actually from Andy and include a secret note for Prue. Phoebe tells her to go see what Andy needs. Phoebe’s got the better power now, so it’s cool.

Upstairs, Piper is in shock because Leo is “gone.” Daisy wants to run away because she doesn’t want more people hurt on her account. Piper tells her to STFU, because Leo died to bring her there, so she better stay put.

Prue meets Andy and he tells her she needs to watch her back because he’s been suspended. He can’t cover for her anymore. Prue focuses on how sweet it is that Andy is watching out for her when he’s about to lose everything he’s ever worked for. Way to put it harshly, Prue. She apologizes and he says that everything happens for a reason.

Attic. Phoebe finds Piper staring at dead Leo. She’s mad because Leo didn’t help her figure out his power. She yells and cries and acts circles around everything we’ve seen in 21 episodes in 20 seconds. Not really that big of an achievement, BUT CONGRATS GIRL!

Later, Piper cries over the dead body and says she loves him. A tear falls on her hand and it starts to glow. She keeps repeating that she loves him and heals him. The cheesy music swells as they embrace and he says she had to find out that loooooove was the trigger all on her own. No idea why, because maybe she could’ve channeled love of a puppy or chocolate and this crap would’ve been over sooner, especially since she was too afraid to say she loved him before. Leo says it’s better late than never.

So, um, Leo’s powers can bring people back from the dead? Noted.

Now that Leo’s back, the girls have to find a Power of 3 spell that will vanquish a Darklighter. Before they can get started on that, Alec shows up. He grabs Piper as a hostage, and there is a bit of a tussle in which Prue arrives and people are shoved and Alec grabs Daisy and DARK TINKLES out.

After a not!break, Piper is trying to use her Leo powers to find Daisy. Prue is the audience and asks, “should we just switch powers back?” and Leo’s all, “no, uh, I’m too weak. Cough.” Leo coaches Piper to look into her love place deep inside herself (for real) and she is able to locate Daisy. Piper doesn’t want to leave Leo alone and Phoebe says it’s cool because the Power of 3 is a sham, and they don’t actually need it today either.

Foggy Park. Alec is going to death-hand Daisy but the girls show up in time. Phoebe throws him back, giving Prue enough time to say the power switching spell. In a stunning and convenient turn of events, this time the spell just switches Prue’s and Alec’s powers. He’s all, “where is my power???” A-HA! You got stuck with the premonitions!

Prue cheesily announces that hate is Alec’s trigger, who knows why she instantly knows that because no one else this episode was able to identify the trigger on their own. Phoebe brings Alec to Prue with her borrowed telekinesis and he’s killed by his own death-hand power. Just before Alec disappears, Prue says the switching spell again. Happy endings. Also, proof that Prue and Phoebe could’ve switched powers back at any point.

Manor. Piper and Leo are cuddling as he talks about how he was once a human and worked as a medic in World War II. When he died, he was offered this gig as a Whitelighter. He never doubted his choice to do it, until now, when he considers being a real boy and marrying Piper and having babies. He tells her he could become mortal again for her, and while Piper likes that, she wants him to be able to help other witches and future Whitelighters. They kiss and he leaves.

Okay, so, if dead humans become Whitelighters, why wouldn’t they just be all, “okay Daisy! Time to join our ranks!” Why was it so important to keep her alive? An over saturated market of Whitelighters? Waiting for a better time? That’s cool planning, if so.

Andy meets Morris at a construction site. The dudes of Internal Affairs are parked nearby. One dude wishes he could read lips and the other looks significantly to the right, so we know he’s evil. Andy, meanwhile, is confessing to Morris that he’s covering for Prue, who is connected to all of their unsolved cases. The one regular Internal Affairs dude is all, “I can’t hear a thing,” but Evil IA heard it all. His eyes go demon red and he opens his mouth ins some sort of squealing-hiss. Regular IA becomes Dead IA.

Piper is still in the attic. Get you a shower and a sandwich girl. She finds Leo’s dog tags and puts them on.

Prue and Phoebe are in the kitchen recapping the episode we just saw. Prue has some weird feather in her hair. Phoebe is so happy to have her useless power back, because having an active one was like an ill-fitting dress for her. Phoebe and activity? PFFT. Prue says they still have a lot of problems, but Phoebe suggest drinking now and thinking about that later.

Okay. Seems legit.
