Kirsti: Holy shit, you guys. I love season 2 a lot, but there were honestly times when I never thought I was going to finish it. It turns out – perhaps unsurprisingly – that recapping a show by yourself is a hell of a lot more work than recapping a show with one or two other people, even if the recaps are about 1,000 words shorter. So it is with much relief that I reach the end of my solo recapping career. (Anna, don’t ever leave me…)
Anyway, it’s time for the obligatory end of season dance party:

Let’s rank this sucker, shall we?
- All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2 – It’s what we’ve been building towards for two seasons, and it was a pretty great way to tie everything together. Plus, Papa Winchester got to partially redeem himself and ACTUALLY SHOW PRIDE IN HIS CHILDREN FOR A RED HOT SECOND.
- In My Time of Dying – A great start to the season. It came with feels and spookiness and, most importantly, the demise of Papa Winchester. WHEEEEEEEEEEEE.
- What Is And What Should Never Be – This episode gave me so many feels. SO. MANY. FEELS. I mean, even in his fantasy world, Dean’s finding ways to make himself a disappointment to his family. And while his parents and Sam were/are in happy long term relationships with the people they loved in reality, Dean can’t see that for himself and instead has to create a world where he’s dating a character based on the model from a beer advert. Plus, the djinn is kind of a kill-with-kindness sort of a monster because you get to live in your dream world for years while dying horribly in reality, and that’s pretty terrifying.
- Tall Tales – The bickering siblings side of things is excellent and totally believable, getting their individual (and very biased) sides of the story is great, and the Trickster is a fun villain. One of my favourites, though it slides into fourth place behind the feelsier episodes.
- No Exit – One that still scares the absolute shit out of me every time I see it. Plus, we get Jo being a total BAMF throughout. So…win.
- All Hell Breaks Loose Part 1 – I like this episode, but it’s nowhere near as good as part 2. It took a little longer than was necessary to get to the Yellow Eyed Demon’s big plan, but that ending was OMG worthy.
- Folsom Prison Blues – It was inevitable that the boys would end up in prison at some point, and I loved that it all turned out to be a part of their plan to hunt something.
- Hollywood Babylon – Dean fitting in and making friends and generally getting to be A Real Boy gives me all kinds of feels. And someone wanting to ensure that Hollywood got horror movies RIGHT was pretty great, even if the movie itself was utterly stupid.
- Bloodlust – I really can’t stand Gordon, but I loved the things-aren’t-always-as-black-and-white-as-they-seem hunt, and Amber Benson is always a welcome addition to Traumaland.
- Roadkill – On first viewing, this episode is pretty meh. But the more you watch it, the better it becomes. There are so many little nuances throughout it that make perfect sense when you know the twist and which it takes multiple viewings to pick up.
- Croatoan – The idea of a demonic virus is reasonably terrifying, but it’s the callousness with which Dean kills infected people that’s the real cause for fear in this episode.
- Houses of the Holy – Dean’s constant scepticism and Sam’s faith make this episode very interesting when you can see the future. It’s not a GREAT episode, but it’s an intriguing way of introducing the concept of angels.
- Playthings – This episode was creepy, but otherwise pretty meh. Drunk!Sam is obviously the highlight.
- Nightshifter – A shapeshifter that uses its abilities to rob banks and jewellery stores is far cooler than a shapeshifter that rapes and tortures people. But despite introducing us to Henriksen’s badassery, this episode was kind of mehtastic.
- Heart – WELCOME, MURDER PENIS. Despite all the feels that this episode brings, I don’t really enjoy it. The werewolves are stupid, and I can’t get over the fact that SAM FLAT OUT MURDERS MADISON. Just because he cries his way through it doesn’t mean it’s not murder.
- Hunted – This episode only exists to introduce Ava as one of the special children. Other than that, it just tells us that Gordon is fucking insane, and we already knew that.
- Crossroad Blues – I don’t know what it is about this episode, but I find it really forgettable. Maybe because Evan’s kind of a pointless character and I honestly didn’t care if they saved him or not.
- The Usual Suspects – This was boring. Sure, there were occasional fun moments, like Dean’s video “confession”. But for the most part, it was just a snorefest. Plus, it drops a couple of spots because the way they pronounced Giles pissed me off.
- Born Under a Bad Sign – I don’t know why I dislike this episode as much as I do. Meg’s a great character, but the driving-all-over-the-country-to-find-out-where-Sam’s-been stuff got really old really quickly.
- Simon Said – Look, Andy’s hilarious. But his creepy twin just makes me want to throw up in my mouth. That’s rape, asshole.
- Everybody Loves a Clown – Honestly, the only thing that saves this episode from being at the bottom of the list is that it introduces us to Ash and Ellen and Jo.
- Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things – It takes a special kind of douchebag to be so determined that a girl owes them sex that they bring her back from the dead. Gross.
