Snark Squad Pod #003: The Force Awakens

Previously: The Snark Ladies read Bone Gap and had a lot of feelings about corn.

Sweeney: Hello again, friends. Today we have an episode of the podcast that I am equal parts hyped and anxious about.

In spite of being avid consumers of ALL THE MEDIA, some how Marines and I managed to make it 3 decades on this planet without ever watching any of the Star Wars movies. (Possible exception being that it’s very likely I saw them as a child and just have no recollection of it whatsoever.)

Mostly for reasons unrelated to this podcast, I wound up watching The Force Awakens recently and we both agreed that there might be something moderately amusing or interesting about two Star Wars noobs trying to digest this film, knowing only what we’ve absorbed through pop culture osmosis.

You can decide for yourselves whether or not that was a good idea.

As always, thank you to Stefan Chin for our fun theme music.

Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter what you thought of today’s episode and whether there’s some piece of media you’d like us to consume in a future episode of the podcast.

For those of you trying to follow along, the upcoming media we’ve planned so far: Midnight Texas (TV show, 1 season), Bonfire by Krysten Ritter (book), After Dark (1987 Kathryn Bigelow movie), and Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle In Time. (Yes, we plan on doing the movie as soon as it’s released.)

ALSO we are planning a fun crossover event with our friends at Reel Bad. #snarkathon returns on Saturday, February 3rd at noon ET / 5:00pm GMT. We’ll be watching Highlander. Reel Bad will be covering each of the Highlander movies over the course of this year, and some of you have previously suggested Highlander for a #snarkathon so now…here we are. Join us on February 3rd on the #snarkathon hashtag to livetweet this movie. I’ve never seen it so I don’t know whether to be excited or scared, but I’m going with excited.

Don’t forget to subscribe to us on iTunes or use this RSS feed to subscribe with your podcast app of choice.

Next time on Snark Squad Pod: We take a break from a specific piece of media to talk about Chosen Ones in Episode 004 – Chosen Ones.

Nicole Sweeney (all posts)

Nicole is the co-captain of Snark Squad and these days she spends most of her time editing podcasts. She spends too much time on Twitter and very occasionally vlogs and blogs. In her day job she's a producer, editor, director, and sometimes host of educational YouTube channels. She loves travel, maps, panda gifs, and semicolons. Writing biographies stresses her out; she crowd sourced this one years ago and has been using a version of it ever since. She would like to thank Twitter for their help.
