CURBHANGER

A curbhanger is a downgraded or lame cliffhanger. The term was first used when we discovered RL Stine’s penchant for ending his Goosebumps chapters with someone screaming in horror. Of course, all you had to do was turn to the next page to realize that there was no true horror at all.

The term was resurrected once we were introduced to EL James’s Fifty Shades Trilogy. In addition to sharing a love of initialed first names, RL and EL are also experts at dumbing down their writing. The only difference is that EL writes for adults.
