Snark Squad Pod #034 – GLOW

Previously: We gushed about Crazy Rich Asians, rom coms, fabulous dresses, and representation.

Sweeney: This post is a day late because I have been traveling and Mari has been event planning, but the podcast episode itself was on time! This week we are talking about a Netflix show that I first watched all in one day, in true Netflix binge fashion, because it is so immensely watchable.

The show follows the creation of a female wrestling show called The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, loosely based on a show that actually existed. (There’s a documentary about the original show on Netflix that I have not seen, but which our guest this week tells me is fantastic.) A ragtag band of women who are mostly down on their luck for some reason or other comes together and falls in love with wrestling and the result is glorious.

When we decided to talk about this wrestling show I was particularly delighted because it meant I could finally get my dear friend Matthew Gaydos on the show. In addition to being a wrestling aficionado, Matt also hosts his own fantastic and joyful podcast called I Love It! where he talks to people about the things they love. He’s also a frequent guest on Reel Bad and head of Co-Productions at Complexly.

Check out the episode to hear all the many feelings we had about GLOW:

Nicole Sweeney (all posts)

Nicole is the co-captain of Snark Squad and these days she spends most of her time editing podcasts. She spends too much time on Twitter and very occasionally vlogs and blogs. In her day job she's a producer, editor, director, and sometimes host of educational YouTube channels. She loves travel, maps, panda gifs, and semicolons. Writing biographies stresses her out; she crowd sourced this one years ago and has been using a version of it ever since. She would like to thank Twitter for their help.
