Snark Squad Pod #051 – Our 2018 In Media

Previously: The HBO adaptation of My Brilliant Friend gave us a lot of feelings.

Sweeney: HAPPY NEW YEAR, FRIENDS. We’re a few days late to that party, and to be honest, we’re not quite to the point of FRESH STARTS here on the site, either. Marines, queen of the side hustle, took on another job helping to organize PodCon last fall, and that event happens in a couple weeks. First: if you’ll be at PodCon or just in Seattle that weekend, we’d love to see your faces. Second: Snark Squad has a long history of going into hibernation in November or December only to be reborn in January, but this year you can expect that return from hibernation to come a little later than usual.

That out of the way: we made a podcast for a whole year! And we’re still doing it! I feel like so many of our projects have a “Goodnight Westley, I’ll most likely kill you in the morning,” vibe to them. We do things until we don’t feel like it anymore. The thing about this podcast, though, is that it wouldn’t even occur to me to not do this thing. We are doing this thing. Of course we are doing this thing. Of course we will not kill Westley in the morning. I mean this podcast. That got away from me.

It’s one of my favorite things we ever done and I am eternally grateful for all of the support we’ve gotten from our little community here. As someone whose professional life is also very online, and very dependent on large audiences, I am often amazed by how much love and support Snark Squad has managed to get from so few people. We have had so much fun learning and trying this thing out and we are so lucky to have had people willing to be so patient and encouraging. So thank you, thank you, thank you.

Also, while I am in charge of this post, I am going to thank Mari for being a wonderful co-host, collaborator, and friend. In addition to all the wonderful support, the true heart of this project has been and remains the simple fact that I have a standing weekly date with my best friend to talk about stories. Podcast or no, that’s all I ever wanna do. We had a hell of a year, and I can’t wait to see what we do next.

With that, this week we have no guest. It’s just Mari and I talking about this past year, the media we consumed on the podcast and off, and answering some Twitter questions. It’s a lot less coherent and more meandering than usual, but we had fun and we hope you do too.
