Snark Squad Pod #074 – Coming of Ages Stories

Previously: We were not the biggest fans of the final season of Game of Thrones

Sweeney: HELLO AGAIN. In case you missed this announcement on Twitter, we had a whole catastrophe with our audio and lost an episode for the first time. Rest in peace, Good Omens episode. (Though we shared the 2/3 of an episode we managed to record over on Patreon for a truly absurd listening experience.) Rather than scrambling to put out an episode and then remain perpetually behind while Mari and I travel in the coming months, we decided to just give ourselves that pass and skip a week. We hope you all understand.

But now we are back on track! And this week we are returning to talk about one of our favorite things in media: coming of age stories. I was very ill – I went for a 20 mile run as part of marathon training and it was an unmitigated disaster of a run, and I returned with just enough time to vomit, shower, and record. I did my best to edit out all the long pauses where I struggled for words. (Including a moment where I stopped myself mid-sentence to ask if “adolescence” was really the word I was trying to say? It was A TIME.)

My own personal problems aside, this was a fun meandering journey of a conversation in which we talked about identity, trauma, absent parents, and periods. Joining us on that journey is our friend Deboki, who previously joined us to discuss Someone Great, and who you can find sharing all of her smart, thoughtful opinions on Twitter and her booktube channel.
