Snark Squad Pod #083 – Definitely Not An Interview With Eric Silver

Previously: Thanks in part to Vanessa Kirby & Idris Elba, we finally watched a Fast & Furious movie on the podcast.

Sweeney: Making a weekly 40-60 minute podcast is itself time consuming, and all the more so when you factor in the time we spend watching or reading whatever it is that we are discussing. Almost from the jump we incorporated topical episodes on chosen one stories or anti-heroes, to help offset that. Earlier this year we had an idea for how we could expand our non-media-specific formats and also broaden our base of friends we asked on the show. People we knew we wanted to talk to but weren’t entirely sure what we wanted to talk to them about.

I have been trying to find a good way to get Eric Silver onto the podcast for months and eventually it dawned on me that we had literally created a format for precisely that. This is our third attempt at the format and in true third-time’s-the-charm format, I think we finally got a handle on how to do it. Maybe. It helps that our guest is super smart and in addition to all of his knowledge about podcasts, has an incredible eye for structure. Maybe I’m giving us too much of the credit.

Eric is a fellow internet-media-person with a list of credits a mile-long, but his highlights are in podcasts where he can be found DMing Join The Party, co-hosting HORSE, and being the head of creative at Multitude Productions. You can also find him on Twitter, which is where I mostly talk to him. He’s a gem.

Hear all of Eric’s thoughts on structure, playing with structure, reality competition shows, and a few of his media hot takes in this week’s episode.

Nicole is the co-captain of Snark Squad and these days she spends most of her time editing podcasts. She spends too much time on Twitter and very occasionally vlogs and blogs. In her day job she's a producer, editor, director, and sometimes host of educational YouTube channels. She loves travel, maps, panda gifs, and semicolons. Writing biographies stresses her out; she crowd sourced this one years ago and has been using a version of it ever since. She would like to thank Twitter for their help.
